For some reason this fascinates me. Obviously theres a market for it,
but I don't understand why anyone in their right mind would pay REAL
money for in-game items or levelling. Games are supposed to be fun and
it can't be fun to pay someone else to do it/get item-x for you. I'd
like to meet some of the goons that actually plop down cash for this
stuff.
Hi - meet a goon :)
I've bought gold in the past while playing WoW. I earn a decent wage
and had the choice of grinding the gold myself to get an item (epic
mount) or paying someone else to do it for me. It was no contest as
far as I was concerned. I'd rather pay someone x amount of money that
I can earn in a couple of hours than repeatable do something in a game
for 20+ hours that I found extremely boring. Why grind (work) for 20+
hours when you can achieve the same result in 2? If something isn't
fun then don't do it - grinding isn't fun in my book and I will never
waste my time doing it. I'd rather just pay someone else. I imagine
there are plenty of people who feel the same way.
As long as game designers add mind-numbing grinding time sinks to
MMORPGs people will continue to buy gold. They might as well make the
money from these themselves in my opinion. Or better yet, remove the
boring time sinks altogether.
