I have a Dell Inspiron 8200 Laptop with a nVidia DeForce 440 video
card. I realize it's a bit of an older unit these days, but, it has
what seems like something of a quirky problem.
I want to play the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic on
it. I get an error report that my video drivers are out of date.
However, when I try to install the latest version of the Geforce 4
drivers, it fails (I get a message that I don't have the right
hardware on my system).

Video Card Name=NVIDIA GeForce4 440 Go (Microsoft Corporation)
Video Memory=64
Desktop Resolution=1600x1200x32 @ 60Hz
DirectX=DirectX (9.0+) (4.09.00.0904)
OpenGL Version=1.1.0
OpenGL Vendor=Microsoft Corporation
OpenGL Renderer=GDI Generic
NVidia Driver=6.13.10.4258
Vid Card Status=Warning
Vid Card Driver Status=Fail
GL Status=Fail
DX Status=Pass
I _can_ get the appropriate drivers to load on the same system, on my
Fedora Core (Linux) partition. So, I can play SWKOTR on that side of
the system. But, when, I'm in Windows XP, it won't update???
Any suggestions (maybe a more suitable newsgroup, since I realize this
isn't really hardware based -- I just thought maybe someone else had
the same problem with this game).
The game itself is patched.

IIRC Kotor uses pixel shaders and the 440 Go is essentially a Geforce4mx and
it doesnt support pixel shaders. You wont be able to play the game on that
graphics chip no matter what drivers you install. Not on Windows and not on
Linux either.
