This seems to be your fallback line: anyone who likes WoW has been
brainwashed.
No, any WoW player who thinks WoW is so much better than LOTRO or that
they're both exactly the same, & has barely, if at all, played LOTRO is a
tosser.
I don't believe anyone could reasonably claim they are exactly the
same. Someone *might* form a soundly based opinion that WoW was much
better without playing much of either, but it would have to be based on
personal tastes - someone who really likes PvP is surely going to
prefer WoW, for example.
Again, personal taste as you say - LOTRO's monster play has hardly just
begun with ppl hitting 40s in the last week. I, personally, would prefer to
play a PvP game as the 'baddie', not just one race/class vs another with not
much sense, just your generic made-up good vs evil in WoW. LOTRO has lore &
backstory aplenty to justify it's structure. And you get to play a fair
portion of PvE as an orc, warg or spider, alongside the PvP, which just
rocks for us mainly PvE players.
I couldn't care less about WoW - I'm not the one losing players in
droves or feeling threatened that my favourite party drug is on the way out.
Personally, I'd rather most of those types stay over there lol!. As I've
said on a number of occasions & won't repeat again: it's the company & a
large portion of the player base that makes LOTRO very different from WoW,
at least this far & in all the things that matter.
But you haven't played WoW, so you don't really know anything about the
player base. As for the company, the only thing that affects the play
experience is that 'Turbine' rather than 'Blizzard' is written on the
intro screen.
Whatever. Enjoy you little pocket dimension in WoW.
I play WoW mostly on European PvE servers, and I don't see the problems
that some people wail about.
Good for you. WoW is a predominantly US game & unless there are Aus servers
I'd play there, rather than wear the +100ms pings in EU & half the player
base not speaking English.
It's as much as I recall - you were an obsessive Diablo II player,
IIRC, until you didn't like a patch. Suddenly it was revealed to you
that Blizzard was the embodiment of evil on earth, the Sauron of the
game development world. Perhaps that is part of your attraction to
LOTRO.
HUH? My reasons for pissing on Blizzard are far more far reaching than just
that ffs. From not fixing many simple, yet almost game crippling bugs in the
last couple years, or listening to their player base in any way, to not
removing exploits, completely undermining most builds with v1.10, to not
stopping the pkers & other scum, but rather preventing mostly innocuous
utilities like MapHack with filthware/spyware like Warden at the expense of
a lag-inducing, unplayable BNet;
Yup, sounds like you didn't like the patch.
Sounds like you need to learn to read AND comprehend, or clean out your ears
LOL!
not to mention systematically &
intentionally doing this to thin out the numbers & 'force' the ppl who
funded them across to World of Wallies in the end (remember, D2 was free to
play!),
Why would it force them to play a particular MMORPG?
The lure of the temptress - a lot of BNet ppl went across just to have a
stable, reliable network, ppl others liked to play with so felt pressured to
follow. Instead, they got a pretty poor release with *** capacity planning
& up to 24hr queues for _months_ from memory. They lied about a lot of
things from all accounts, stuff they either changed or didn't include until
much later. Anyway, I couldn't give a *** how you or others got screwed
going across to another Buzzard cash-cow - I wasn't going to be one of them.
Come Gerry, use your keen insight & reading between the lines & now tell me
how I was sore at losing all my friends to WoW, or some other similar tripe
lol! The truth is very simple & obvious in fact, to anyone with half a brain
& not just their own hedonistic pleasure & self-interest at heart. What you
see is what you get with Buzzard, probably since the days of W2/Starcraft,
when their egos starting getting far too big for their cash flow.
which obviously worked to a large degree because ppl are generally
stoopid forgiving, forgetting sheep with short memories who only care about
their own fun & slice of the cake (not that every ex D2-come-WoW sub falls
into this category, but you very well may Gerry, if the shoe fits, which is
probably why you're sore about me sticking to my guns on this). Yeah, real
heroes those Buzzard boys - you should be proud for contributing to their
billions. Watch them make you take it up the arse with their next mmo rofl!
I enjoyed D2 but I never played online. If Blizzard's next MMORPG is
space-based, I am unlikely to bother with it, as I prefer fantasy
worlds. Warhammer is the one I'm waiting to try - I'm hoping that it's
got the PvE versus PvP balance somewhere in between the two modes in
WoW.
Age of Conan for me, but only if they have an open beta. Not even going to
bother with a mmog any more unless they have a free trial (which usually
only happens well after release), or an easily accessible beta program, OR a
whole lot of good reviews here & elsewhere from ppl/sites I trust, end of
story. Paying AU$80-90 for the game just to find out you hate it within the
first month is highway robbery for a game you can only play on their
ka-ching, ka-ching servers imo. Time to make these online slot machine
vendors accountable.
I give my money to the developers of games I like. They are as often
shareware as big companies, and my decision to purchase takes
absolutely no account of which.
Well, then we'll end up with a string of M$-type games
developers/publishers, endless clones & more online shitware - & you & your
like will be the ones to blame. A good game doesn't mean that the dev is a
worthwhile company to sink your money into, for all the obvious reasons I
would've thought. No one can predict which games devs will turn into
money-grubbing asswipes when they become successful, but we can surely not
support those that already have become just that. If you don't get that,
then we're done here.
