Not really, i.m.o.: you get your summoned pet whom you can use to
aggro and take the first heat, while you de-buff or otherwise
hinder the enemy, then start frying them. At lvl 4 I have no
problem with whites, although when I get beat up on by several
goblins it can get a bit tough. The only other char I found as easy
to solo as the LM is the Dwarven Minstrel.
Well, as I said, I didn't like the tank experience so I can't
comment on that cause I quit too soon.

Has anyone tried a thief yet?

I tend to agree with what you say about the Loremaster. A LM isn't
hard to solo in that it's not surviveable, it's hard to play in that
most people don't understand how to go about managing their pets and
using the skills they have, I think. Heck, you have "slow" skills,
you have AOE skills, you can nuke, you have a flashbang "root" skill,
"scare 'em off" skills--a pretty comprehensive asenal that all you
need do is figure out how to use to best effect.

LM is what I started with, and I found it easy as pie... Especially as
compared to my mostly solo enchanter in EQ. Perhaps that's what's
wrong in these new MMOs, they are just too easy. I can remember
soloing on the moon in EQ and trying to actually make progress in xp
doing that, it was up/down, up/down, and what an adrenaline rush
charming mobs who could kill you in 2 hits, and trying to control
them. I lost 3 levels just trying to recover my equipment once from
one dungeon in Kunark earlier too.

I think what finally killed EQ for me (besides realizing that I had no
life and it was for the most part boring) was that I played my
enchanter so much better solo than any group would let me, I think
them all being used to people who just got by on the easy stuff.


I played a burglar in closed beta to lvl 11, and IMO *that's* the
hardest character to solo with--was for me, anyway. My burglar
didn't die a lot, though, it was just hard in that playing one seems
to take a lot more tactical thinking--or maybe its just a different
*type* of tactical thinking than I'm used to.

I almost started with a dwarven burglar. A dwarven rogue was my most
loved character in WoW (woo all 2 months worth). Bhuttrapier. But the
people just put me off, the endless stupid quests, and it didn't help
I was convinced to petition my own name by a 'friend' and renamed
Shtabby. ;) Ah at least I can remember some good times.

Funny, I just jumped back into EQ for a good taste of nostalgia. And
since I'm bouncing off the proverbial walls until something grabs me and
doesn't let go, (MMO-wise that is). My biggest problem with EQ, at this
point, since I've gotten over the grind, etc. etc., is that there is no
shadow underneath the characters. Is this right? I've looked through the
settings and have seen nothing to turn on character shadows. I tell ya, I
never knew how much I appreciated that feeble little blurry dot in WoW.
At least it gives a sense of the character actually connecting with the
ground beneath their feet.

I can completely agree on the WoW quests. Christ could they possibly toss
in a few more? Way too many useless and needless quests. Sure some are
needed to fill the gaps. Another quest problem is that the newbie quests,
no matter the starting area are basically mirrors of each other. No real
imagination on Bliz's part. Basically a copy/paste of all the starting
zones. How glorious indeed. :/
