Well, after reading various blogs of beta testers, it doesn't seem to
be the kind of MMORPG that can "kill" WoW. It doesn't seem to have

<snip>

I put that at the top of my "reasons to endorse" list. If LotRO had what
it
takes to "kill" WoW, or if I'd seen in it what I saw in WoW I'd have
bailed
from the beta test within the first couple of days--or sooner.

Of course as Nossie pointed out and I'd already considered, it could
simply
be that what I was seeing was coming more from the non-wanking
beta-testing
crowd than from the game itself. But--even when the wanking crowd shows
up
in LotRO, and there's no doubt they will, I figure that the game's not
going
to keep them interested for long, since as you say, it doesn't feature a
lot
of what it would probably take for it to be a WoW "killer".

And that's a good thing--a very good thing.

I did beta test it for a few months. It's a fun game, very similar to
WoW but in Middle Earth. People playing it were much older in average
than those in WoW, which is a good thing. It adheres to Middle Earth
geography and lore, and I liked the storyline quests.
I didn't like the 'click and forget' crafting just like in WoW, but
guess that was their target audience. I prefer a more involved
process. Only having 7 classes was a turnoff to me too, as I have a
serious problem of altoholism (playing several characters), and since
I normally don't like fighter types, that only left me with 2 choices:
minstrel and loremaster (the others are the tank (guardian), the DPS
(champion), the archer (hunter), the rogue and the captain. They do
play differently and are all fun, but being a caster-only myself, I
didn't have too many options.
I loved the graphics! and the music was awesome too. Another problem
was little differentiation between chars of the same class. A lvl 20
champion is the same as any other lvl 20 champion, maybe with a +1
difference here and there. I would have liked more career choices.
Overall, I do recommend it, specially if you've read/watched the LotR
material and liked it.

Wolfing,

quote, "and since

minstrel
and loremaster <"

That places me square on the dot as well. Not a leader of "slug fests".

How do these two (2) Classes play out for total beginner of any on-line
game?
Will attempt to join game play tomorrow morning Pacific daylight time US.

Your input would be appreciated.
