I'm reading Tad Williams' Otherland series (1st book so far) & that's
very similar I'd say. A bit slow going through the middle, but not too
bad for 1996. His VR world reminds me 2nd Life, at least the Inner
District, heh.

It starts out really well, but by about the 4th(?) book it sort of made me feel
like I was reading a re-hash of Philip Jose Farmer's Riverworld books. A bit of
everything, with lots of kitchen sinks thrown in. Eventually I tired of it and
didn't even finish the penultimate book - the last one is sitting on the shelf
unread.
I loved William's Memory, Sorrow and Thorn, which other people complained about
the pacing of ... but Otherworld eventually slows to a snail's pace by
comparison (i.m.o., y.m.m.v., & misc. standard disclaimers). If I remember
correctly, the second one actually picks up a bit after the first, but it was
downhill from there.

Anybody interested in my signed 1st edition hardcover? <g>
