What have you been mining! Perhaps it's time to step up from Veldspar, eh?
The only things you can as a Caldari in safe sec space: Pyrox & Plagio. Mind
you, I've seen Veld & Scordite sell better at times.
You can get a cruiser in about 12 days from a buck character. Assuming
you rolled a miner from creation, you should have the skills to use
Miner II mining lasers. Get yourself an Osprey (or a Scythe, if you're a
Minmatar character), fit up a set of 3 Miner's, an assault launcher, and
4 drones of the appropriate damage type.
Done already. The 1mill/hour is in an Osprey with 4 mining drones, 3xMiner
II lasers, a tractor beam, 10MW MWD & I've got a hauler to make pickup runs
for the ore. Once I fill a jetcan & my measly 800m3 hold in the Osprey I
tractor the can 100-200km away from the roid field & then do the warping
to/fro station with the hauler quick smart. I have been playing this for
over 2 mths ya know...
That ship can push an entire jetcan of ore in under an hour. Pyroxeres,
Not so. Certainly not pyrox anyway. And not even with 4 Miner II drones. Yer
dreamin. They probably nerfed it in the last patch lol.
for example, is about 1.7 to 1.8 million a can. Now, if you include
hauling, you've already doubled your ISK output. Train for a mining
barge. It seems far off and magical, but it's really not all that
expensive or difficult to get one, and they can really start moving ore
(skip the Procurer, go straight for the Retriever).
I've looked at that. My heart just isn't in it any more, when I look at the
per batch yield & prices of rarer ores that all the asshats are hording for
themselves (or legit mining corps with heavy duty protection, fair enough).
Now, start training up your refining skills, as well as working on
maxing out your various mining yield skills, and start moving towards a
Covetor. Once you have that month and a half of training out of the way,
you can almost immediately train for Exhumers (although you might not
have the capital to afford one just yet; make some corp friends, I'm
sure they could pool money to help you).
Also, try heading out to Minmatar space, because there's the rather
valuable Omber ore available in high-sec areas. Omber will go for about
4-5 mill a can, and a Retriever can move a can in about a half-hour with
skill.
I looked at the closest systems & they were like 30-40+ jumps away through
safe sec *yawn*. I could stash my Osprey in my Badger & try to make it
there, but as I've said several times, I'd just be playing *their* game &
avoiding low sec where the best ore is, in fact only a few jumps away from
where I am now. No thanks.
Btw, Kernite has even better yield in Amarr 0.7, but that's even further
away from me.
It sounds as though you simply haven't been working through the actual
game mechanics, rather, expecting fame and fortune to fall into your lap.
Aha. Typical 'vet' attitude - if you're not doing it our way you must be a
dumb noob. I'm not. I've read & listened to far more web sites & forums &
players online in 2 mths than you have in 4 I'd wager. I actually read
manuals cover to cover & complete tutorials. And the 13-yr-old snot-nosed
pkscum still controls my gameplay (albeit indirectly).
It will take me close to 100hrs of
mind-numbing mining to get a battleship lol, the next big thing!
Since it sounds like you haven't yet explored cruisers, I'd give them a
go first.
I've got an Osprey to mine with...? I've got enough isk now to get a Caracal
(my first choice to go ratting), or a Moa. But as I said, I just don't think
my heart's in it any more...
But, as a counter-point:
Battleship training (to be halfway decent with it): about a month
T2 fittings : about a month
Maxed defense skills: about a month
Assuming you continued to slog it out for a modest 2 hours a night, you
could afford that battleship right around the time you had the money,
skills and experience to use it properly.
Sounds good to me.
I think you'll find those estimates way optimistic, unless all you do is
specialise & twiddle your thumbs while your skills train for 3-6 mths. Oh
the fun!
Have you seen the time & costs involved to get there??? Especially at my
current best of 1mill/hr?
Retriever: 6.25 mill, 7 hours (let's round)
Strip Miner I's: 6 mill, 6 hours (3mill x 2 of them)
Misc other ship fittings, skills: 3 mill, 3 hours.
I was talking about the BS...obviously. *sigh*
Looks like you're looking at about 16 hours of labor for a ship that
will make you millions upon millions of ISK. Don't forget that the
training will take you many times as much time as actually earning the
ISK to buy the ship + stuff. That's 8 night's work at our estimate of 2
hours a night, the skills will take you about 2.5 weeks (from a buck
character, probably not that long if you've already got some mining skill).
Sounds good to me.
Not bad for a deaf man. How about the skills & fittings for those ships? Add
another X million isk & months to train probably.
Perhaps, but I'm not in it to just get right either. All I'm sayin (yet
again) is that the PvP nature of the game limits your PvE options & makes
you far less 'competitive' (in a PvE sense) & makes it take far too long to
get anywhere.
Well, I hope that my examples here have provided enough evidence that
perhaps it is a personal issue, rather than that of the game. It would
No, I take nothing personally on Usenet, as no one here (with the exception
of 1 or 2) knows me anywhere near personal enough to know wtf they're
talking about. This is a game issue that I have a personal distaste for,
that's all. Some people did nothing but cow runs in D2; I found that
brain-numbing after 5 or 6. I guess we're different that way.

it played for you (or at least, to get the satisfaction out of
accomplishing something in-game without any actual effort). You are no

more or less competitive than anyone else, only that which you make
yourself. It's very easy to get into a ship that will mine the pants off
of anything else in the space lanes, in high-sec, in safety, with
minimal effort, but you have seen fit to blame the game for not
delivering that satisfaction for _which you have not earned_.
I got plenty of satisfaction over the 2.5 mths from this 2.5mth shelf-life
game. I don't see it going any longer, unless you're an asshat or have
severe OCD or no life. Probably not as much satisfaction as canceling my
account tonight. Thanks for your help TSG. :)
