After people have played it a while, it appears that many find that
this game gives no incentive to levelling as the world adjusts
automatically to your current level making combat kinda pointless. I
remember a game on the Sega Saturn that had a similar feature which I
found quite annoying. The same applies to treasure found.

The auto levelling issues have been almost completely fixed by the
modding community.
I still find the game very disappointing in the content field, because
there is few and little variety of everything (weapons, quests..).
The gameplay per se is great though... if only they had put in some
decent questlines and decent characters...

In other words it fails in almost exactly the same way as Morrowind did
- nice engine, shame about the story line. Afaict, everything was pretty
much 'on rails' from the get-go.

Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed playing it, and the graphics has
just about reached the level where I' not even interested in the next
step. But for heaven's sake, can't they get Jeff 'Avernum' Vogel to
script the story for them ...

With the success of Oblivion, there is sure to be an add-on. Lots of
opportunity to address the most significant of the current complaints.
