If Starforce did that, it'd be subject to a huge slew of lawsuits, any
programs that used it would be ripped from the shelves until they either
fixed Starforce or removed it from the product, and people would be walking
the streets professing the coming apocalypse. Seriously, remember that
lovely little problem with the Sony CDs that messed with peoples' computers?
How quickly did the crap hit the fan when that was discovered?

And even if it did that, if you have a router with a hardware firewall you
are at least partially protected... Most firewall programs worth their salt
would stay up unless they were completely disabled externally (which can
happen with certain malware programs).

The problem is either coincidental and something else got into your system
at around the same time, or most likely the cd crack program you used...
Consider that it's an illegal crack, so gee what's to stop the author from
dropping a nice trojan into it? What're you gonna do, call the cops and
report that the illegal code you were using to pirate a copy protected
program messed up your system? You can't say anything, so they can do
whatever they want. Would not be the first time, and definitely won't be
the last time, that you hear about people cracking programs being less than
honest.
