It's on sale at go gamer for $9.90, and Cary Elwes plays "The Bard,"
but I dearly hated the demo.

Anyone played this game that could give a short review?

As an action RPG...eh. It was better than, say, Demon Stone, but not as
good as the console Baldur Gates.

Funny as hell, though. The humor reminded me a lot of an old Legend
adventure game called Eric the Unready. Any individual bit was funny
enough, but the sum was greater than its parts somehow.

If you like spoof humor, it's worth grinding through the game
to experience it. If you don't, give it a pass.

Keep in mind, when deciding on this, that what passes for humor
in the game are things like finding a Halberd of Hemmhoroids.

That was why I never went for it.

All the reviews and what was put out by the company seemed to really be
pushing the whole Monty Python/Immature Gamer humor that I really got sick
of about 10 years when I last played pen and paper Dungeons and Dragons
RPGs.

I played the old Bard's Tale games when they were new and any other gamer
from that era is going to be in his/her 30s now (late 20s to early 40s for
the most part) and really that just seemed like a step away from the classic
Bard's Tale games and ignoring the old school gamers who won't find that
sort of thing funny any more.

I liked what Sir-Tech did with Wizardry 8 when that finally came out and how
it was "new and improved" and yet still was an obvious extension of the
original games and not just a case where they were reusing and old name with
an entirely new product targetted at an entirely different audience than the
originals.
