Re: I like TES: Oblivion - what other RPG is on par with it?

NuQ <nuq@xxxxxxxxxx> once tried to test me with:
I'm really enjoying TES: Obl. Are there any other modern (released
within the past 2 years), good RPGs that I should look into? Not really
interested in a monthly fee like WoW has.
The only game similar to Oblivion released relatively recently (besides
Morrowind, but that's even older) is Gothic 2. You can get Gothic 2 Gold
for around $20 (I think it's $18 at Amazon.com).
Dungeon Lords could have been similar but it was left unfinished and half
realized. I don't recommend it unless you're really bored and find it dirt
cheap.
The last two years haven't given us a lot of options apart from MMO's.
Guild Wars is an online game that doesn't have a fee, and is worth looking
into, but it's not really that similar to Oblivion. Excellent graphics but
the world doesn't feel real like Ob's does, and the combat isn't as
satisfying.
