guards or other NPCs assemble to at least investigate the gate, perhaps
secure the area of daedra, *maybe* even attempt to go through and acquire
the sigil stone if their responsibility/confidence stats are at appropriate
levels. You could even join in and try to help them.
indeed. it would be nice to go into a gate at random and discover a
group of friendlies already in there. imagine going into a gate,
clearing halfway, then it starts to warp like the stone had been
removed. you get booted out and there's a small group of npcs cheering
that they were able to close a gate. like you said, there's plenty of
"non-essential" gates that spawn all over the place.. it'd be fun imo.
i guess some people would whine that they wasted their time clearing
only to get booted out before they could get all the phat lootz. but
things could be designed around those problems.
