While google groups may or may not have an actual quoting mechanism in
place (don't know since I don't use them and I'm not going to make an
account just to test) - I seriously doubt the standard cut and paste
routines (crtl-c, ctrl-v) don't work.
It does have a quoting mechanism. But it's not intuitive, you have to click
a link that says "show options" next to the message header, then click
"reply to author", then you have to change the destination to be back to
the newsgroup (otherwise it will email the response - this is clicking a
radio button, not typing it in), and then type your response. And the
default behavior on this would encourage top-posting because it puts the
cursor above the quoted material. So no, it's not intuitive at all.
What most people do probably is click the little "reply" link below the
message which just pops up a blank spot to start typing.
Basically Google Groups is teh sukc for anything except searching archived
posts.
I've been using google groups for 3 years now. It's very intuitive
actually.
Oh, and don't bother using "reply to author", just "show options,
reply" does the trick as well as any other news client.
