Does anyone have any good tips on making money in Oblivion? I'd like to
buy a horse and a house, but I have only 400 gold. I am an Assassin
which doesn't seem to pay very well!

Join a mages guild. You can then freely take all their potion making
apparatus (mortal and pestles and whatnot) and books (some of the books are
relatively expensive, you need to scan *every* book on all the shelves to
find them) and sell them at alchemy and book shops.

By taking all the apparatus from just one guild, and then selling it, you
can easily earn 300-400 gold.

Up north at the Cloud Ruler Temple, there's a ton of free alchemy
apparatus, several expensive books, and several Avavira Katana swords all
free for the taking and then reselling. I couldn't even carry it all and
had to make two trips to sell it all off. I think the Katanas are only
free if you join the Blades, not entirely sure on that.
