Thusly "drybones" <drybones@xxxxxxxxxx> Spake Unto All:

What the hell is P2P and the, "Usenet". ???

P2P = Peer-to-peer = filesharing software which operates directly
between users computers, without relying on material stored on a
central server.

USENET = what you're reading this in, the newsgroups. Presumably he
meant that he downloads pirated movies from the binary groups.

Thanks, Mean_Chlorine.
Sometimes these 77 year old brains go fizzle when I read too many of these
posts. 8^))

Yes & no to what MC said. Usenet is just a small type of file sharing &
strictly speaking it isn't P2P by defn, as it is distributed by servers, not
peers. Clients like Shareaza (which I prefer), eMule, Limewire & a host of
torrent clients are true P2P clients. There are at least 4 or 5 major
networks with many up n coming. Check out www.slyck.com for all things P2P.
I won't get into philosophical arguments here about whether P2P is 'piracy'
or stealing per se nor if it is ruining the PC games market or movie/music
industry (which I most certainly believe it is NOT, in fact much to the
contrary imo). You can read Slyck for that, albeit a biased version ;).
