LAN'ed friggin Diablo 2 all weekend

Because in about 30 days none of my buddies that LAN will even be
leaving their house or washing themselves due to Oblivion, we decided
to throw down some old school D2 with the Zy-el 4 mod and it was like
1997 all over again: once you start, you can't stop. Some of the
friends/girlfriends/wives that remember the old days were saying:
"Isn't there something better out to play after all these years?"
I couldn't think of anything that would really fit the bill for a
variety of reasons, first off we had computers ranging from close to
top of the line to old p3-450's running win2000 and all of them could
play the game just fine. Secondly, since we were on the LAN, we could
install the game on all the computers with the same key and just use
the disk to start up the game and hand it to the next person, install
the mod and go. Third, it's just so easy to start and run a TCP/IP
game, even to open it up so friends stuck at home can join up. I know a
lot of people played out Diablo, but with zyel, the insane (while still
balanced) crafting recipies and item management is a definate breath of
fresh air.
