That's where the kiddies hang out. This medium is (mostly) one that requires a little more intelligence to use, which means there is a slightly higher singal-to-noise ratio. Standard news client also makes it easy to KF the weirdos that do show up, so you only see them once and they are gone.

Usenet is mainly unmoderated, whereas boards tend to have gratuitous advertising ripped off them, unless a fee is paid.
