The interface is a bit odd, but it's basically WASD from Quake that is
pretty standard for FPS. Holding control to attack is weird, and
reminded me of when I didn't know how to set +mlook in Quake and had to
hold down control to mouse look!

It's difficult for me to compare to morrowind because I haven't
finished gothic 2 all the way yet, but I would put them around the same
score (I review using the binary system, either it's a game that should
be played, or it's one that should be avoided). Morrowind is big and
very loose. Combat is basically clicking the button and trying to back
up to avoid the reposts from enemies (which rarely works as they will
still hit you even if their attack animation finished while you were
far out of their reach), also your ability to block is based on a
percentage, and not on any actions you take while fighting. Gothic is
about getting that first hit in to stun, then trying to combo off that,
or parrying.

To rate Morrowind higher is falling into a bit of a trap. Oblivion,
which will be absolutely incredible, borrows many things from the
Gothic series. It's a much tighter, fuller and smaller world than
morrowind, the combat is a lot more gothic-esque with a combo system
and all the NPC's speak AND are on a clock just like Gothic (though
from what I've seen, more advanced) as in they wake up and go to work,
go eat food and then go home and go to bed. All a huge improvements
from Morrowind that Gothic already had in there. I like the story in
morrowind a bit more and the fact that there were tons of cities and
lots of places to get into, but again Gothic's landscape and
countryside is far more interesting than the constant rolling hills in
every direction that morrowind has.
