Whilst I prefer turn-based, I do have to say that paused realtime is okay
sometimes. I used to play UFO:Enemy Unknown which was turn-based. Then I
played UFO:Apocolypse. I actually quite liked the paused realtime way of
doing things as it speeds the game up. A battle in UFO:Apocolypse is a lot
faster than UFO:Enemy Unknown.
However, on the downside, you do appear to lose some control as it is
difficult to know when to next pause the battle.
Overall I think turn-based is a lot better especially if there is a lot more
strategy involved in the combat.
