A solution for Police Quest 4 on XP

Hi all I found a way to play the dos version of Police Quest 4 on win XP, if
you have tried to install it by getting the window that says choose a letter
to install "E" for Police Quest 4 but try to to only get a crash or freeze
try this.I bought the Police Quest Collection ( the four most wanted ) and
couldnt install it with the "install.bat" option at the root dir of the cd -
the dos install - I did try the win install that plays in a window but didnt
like it so I found this way to play the full screen dos version with full
sound and music plus at the normal speed. If you get confused email me at
fairmontxabc@xxxxxxxxxxx and I'll explain in detail.

Make a directory as F:\sierra\pqcol\pq4 to your hard drive as my hard drive
is F:\ but replace the F with your hard drive letter. Copy the files from
the cd directory \PQ4\ my cd rom letter is d:\ so from D:\PQ4\

ADL.DRV - 11 kb

DACBLAST.DRV - 5 kb

Checkcd.bat - 1 kb

Install.bat - 4 kb

Install.ini - 1 kb

Install.txt - 10 kb

Resource.000 - 18,400 kb

Resource.cfg - 1 kb

Resource.map - 12 kb

Resource.win - 12 kb

Sierra.err - 9 kb

Sierra.exe - 740 kb

Version - 1 kb

Next you have to edit the file "RESOURCE.CFG" file. open it and delete
everything there, then replace it with these lines.

videoDrv = VESA.DRV

soundDrv = F:\SIERRA\PQCOL\PQ4\ADL.DRV

audioDrv = F:\sierra\pqcol\pq4\DACBLAST.DRV

joyDrv = NO

directory = \SIERRA\PQCOL\PQ4

mouseDrv = NONE

memoryDrv = NONE

cd = YES

cmd = PQ4

minmemory = 16 M

resAUD = D:\PQ4\aud

resSFX = D:\PQ4\sfx

audio = F:\sierra\pqcol\pq4;d:\pq4\patches

patchDir = F:\sierra\pqcol\pq4;D:\pq4\patches

save the file.........

you can change the minmemory to whatever but leave a space from the number
and letter "M" .

Thats it play the game by opening the file "sierra.exe" in the
F:\sierra\pqcol\pq4\sierra.exe

If sound and music isnt ok open the same file with VDMSound by right
clicking "Sierra.exe" and choose "Run with VDMS" make sure you have VDMSound
installed first.
