You can really see how the hack changes things in-game by hitting '/' on the numpad to turn the hack off, and '*' to turn it back on. Do this while sitting in a vehicle and notice how the steering wheel is oval with the hack off and is perfectly round with the hack on. And how the GPS screen goes from rectangular to perfectly square.
I walked around for about half an hour last night in the game turning on and off the FOV fix. Really is amazing when you see things what you thought look fine look really bad when the fix is turned on. I was hanging around Mike's Bar and the tables inside the bar are oval once you see them the way they are supposed to look. Also the NPC's look taller and thinner now. And yes the GPS and map are couple of the most glaring things to change shape. I'm really glad that you can turn it off and on in game because one thing that the fix does mess up is the PC screen in the arm dealers shop. It makes it so you see the edges of the monitor which are not rendered right and I was getting some white clipping lines going down the screen. The other thing that does bug me and this might make me go back to playing without the fix is the way rifle scopes hang in the air when looking through them. I use the sniper rifle as my primary weapon and this jus makes it look to strange for my taste. Have to play around a bit to see if I can get used to it. JLC
