Geez, having a problem with updates today. Been away fromS.T.A.L.K.E.R.
for a while, but have a hankering to play again. So I go to the dev and pub
sites, but see nothing about patches. FileFront has lots of patches for the
game, but I'm a little unclear as to which to use. I downloaded v. 1.0006.
I'm looking for the latest patch that's for a US-purchased retail DVD
version of the game. Thanks for any info.
Tim O said the truth. I recently boughtSTALKER, and did an extensive
search for the latest patches.

I have installed the latest patches, and played the game for around 1
hour. That was about 1 month ago, I have not touched the game since
then. I have had no motivation. A few days ago, I put an order for a
24" LCD screen made with PVA panel, Dell 2408WTF (I now have a 19" LCD
with a TN panel). I hope I will get more immersion and thus more
motivation to play the game (and other games, which I did not touch...
the only game which I play every day is TF2 which is an easy-playing
game).
OK, so in the last few days ago I put 3 or 4 hours into playing
Stalker. (I am now at the Stalker's gathering place with Bar and Arena
-- I just delivered the military documents taken from the
Agroinstitufte to the Barkeeper). I came to liking this game. I would
say it is _wholesome_. This makes it immersive.
I came to learn how to play it. I play at the lowest, "novice" level.
But still, I have to run through the areas with the soldiers, bandits
and dogs (My usual strategy in FPS is to leave everything dead behind
me -- not here.) I do not do any side quests. I figured out that I
have to eat something if I see a symbol of fork and spoon, however I
do not know what to do if I see the symbol of rain drop (do I have to
find a shelter to hide from rain ?). Also, if I get into the area with
radiation, then I get a radiation symbol. When this happens, then I
drink vodka... and this brings my health to zero. I do not know what
to do in here, so that I do not go in the areas with radiation. The
manual and guide do not say anything.
I just recalled that I nearly creamed my pants when I met Bloodsucker.
Soon after that, I met the creature who used a kind of telekinesis and
attracted me to itself, and then threw me. This sucked lots of health
from me. I ran scared away from it. I checked the artbook from my
Stalker Radiation Collectioner's edition, but no such creature was
listed in the monsters' catalog. Anybody can tell me ? I suspect it is
poltergeist, but the description of it is very limited.
