It was like watching a really horrible B scifi movie from the 1940's.
There are a lot of B movies from then that are patently silly and bad
but had some redeeming aspects and there are those that are just
awful, awful, awful but you still watch, like a mouse hypnotized by a
cobra. That is the way TP (toilet paper?) is.
What is it with these latest round of shooters like Soldier of
Fortune, Blacksite, Turok, a few others? There is virtually no AI, the
environments are not interactive at all, there is virtually no
physics, there are low poly count and low rez textures everywhere, the
sound effects are like grade school kids worked on them, there are
collision bugs all over the place, other odd bugs like bodies floating
in the air, or appearing and disappearing randomly.
The whole time playing TP, it was so bad, it was amusing, thinking
"why did they even bother with this? what the hell with all the guns
sounding exactly the same? man, this game is bad but I can't stop
playing it". It was also incredibly short. It is annoying to hear how
short games are but this thing was really short, probably a total of 6
hours not including the dying and replaying. And then the checkpoints
are brutal, some have a whole level before there is a check point.
It was so bad, it made me laugh so I don't feel like I totally wasted
my time. The commercial for it was run a bunch of times last week on
the Sci-Fi channel and it is kind of shameful and misleading they use
the CG animation trailer for the commercial. The trailer looks really
good and nothing like the actual game. Anyway, Codemasters has gone on
the *** list with me, although they were only the publishers and
Spark Unlimited was the developer. Gonna remember that name...
I wonder if this is the other side to the piracy debate; because there is
far less piracy on the consoles, they can afford to develop steaming piles
of crap and shove it out the door, whereas on the PC, if there are serious
doubts it will be pirated before it's bought?
