On the otherhand, KOTOR kept me entertained. Though not without its
flaws, it's still manages to engage me. The biggest disappointment was
that it finally ended and -sadly- the KOTOR2 fan-patch hasn't been
released yet.
* Jade Empire (replay)
Since I couldn't play SW:KOTOR2 (or rather, not so much as "couldn't"
as "I refuse to do so until the fan-patch adds in all the stuff
Obsidian forgot to put in"),
You seem to have very strong opinion about KOTOR2, so I don't think my
comments will affect your stance much, but I still like to say few
things about the game.
KOTOR2 is one of the best RPGs that came out in last five-six years or
so. Yes its ending is rushed but that's just one hour out of a 30+
hour experience. The main plot thread is resolved completely. It's
just few of the side stories that got the chopping block and some of
the edited content was cheesy enough to spoil the game, had these been
included. The main character of the game, and the central plot is
extremely good and a lot better than that of KOTOR. Overall, I believe
KOTOR2 is a better game than KOTOR - better story, characters,
dialogues and interface additions.
I played the game around the time it came out, finished it and found
it to be a very good CRPG. The rushed ending didn't make the 95%
expereince before that point to be any less entertaining and it did
wrap up the main plot quite nicely.
Now on to the games........
Bioshock: Continued from last month and finished recently. The
ammo-types, plasmid powers, interactive objects on screen all work
together in an astounding manner to make the combat resolution
extremely varied. This is the first game ever, where I actually
enjoyed respawning of enemies. Still, the plot and gameplay are quite
a bit overrated. Also, while the game is set up in a very interesting
underwater world, the game misses out on creating specific under-water
set pieces and levels and instead create a corridor shooter similar to
DOOM3. Lot more could have been done. Overall, I find it a good FPS.
Culpa Innata: Adventure game that came out last year. It's set up in a
futuristic world where most of western hemisphere is united as one
governing region, with the rest of countries regarded as rogue states.
It's a murder mystery and the gameplay is divided into days. Going any
place and interviewing any person take gameplay time and there are
only 7-8 hours available in the day for investigation. As far as I can
tell, the game is not progressing with me passing explicit
checkpoints, so I am not sure how it'll end. The production values are
not that high. It looks like a game from late 90s and early 2000s,
except for the facial-animation and lip-sync, which are somewhat
passable.
Final Fantasy X - Continued from last month on PS3. The dialogues
often times are cringe worthy, but I am determined to finish the game
this time.
