Re: What have you been playing... IN FEBRUARY 2008

Its been a rather busy month of gaming for me. My faith in PC games has
been restored by the last two games I've picked up which I'll go into below

Crysis
Yes, I'm *still* slogging my way through this and as I get further and
further into it the less interested I am in continuing. No doubt I'll get
to the end in the next few weeks but I cant see myself replaying it many
times like I did FarCry

The Witcher
This game is bloody brilliant, I honestly can't sing its praises high
enough. Yes it's not perfect and there are certainly holes to pick but the
overall package is supreme. The best RPG I've played since Kotor

DarkStar One
I was intrigued by this when it was first released but all the bad reviews
it got put me off buying it, until I saw it going for 10USD on Steam and got
it on a whim. Never again am I going to listen to poxy pullhard reviewers,
this game is great fun! For anybody who enjoyed Elite, Privateer or Free
Space this game is a must have.
The story starts as the typical track down your fathers murderer humdrum
with the usual twists and turns plus the inevitable side missons or trading
to do. Lets not mention the has to be included constantly upgrading your
ships weapons and systems but they've also included "Alien Artifacts" found
scattered all over the galaxy which can be used to upgrade your ship in
various ways. It brings very little new to the space shooter genre but it
does do it very well..........you just have to be able to ignore the abysmal
voice acting :-)
If all the talk of bugs and CTDs has put anybody off, the only time I've had
a CTD has been just after loading the game in the space station you saved
on, quickly pressing the launch button and redocking is a simple cure for
that and I've put 8 hours non stop in a sittting with no problems

Chessmaster 10
I honestly dont know why I got this, I've always hated chess but this is fun
enough when I've only got 10-20 minutes to fill in. The Tutor option is
very useful, telling you where you went wrong and why I constantly get my
ass handed to me. I did try playing the PC at grand master level and got
beaten in 14 moves!

IL2-1946
This is the only game I've ever got into multiplayer in a big way. A
fantastic sim of WW2 planes for those who haven't tried it. I would
reccomend finding a decent squadron to join and becoming part of a team, it
add so much to the experience.

MOO2
Still playing this against the kids, in the latest game they've formed an
Axis of Evil and had my peace loving empire in a bit of trouble early on.
But as they usually do they made a small but exploitable error and let my
Galactic Pacification League back into it..............stupid kids LOL

Lego Star Wars (PS2)
This is a great little game, way too easy and short in single player but
where it comes into its own is in the Coop mode. Another one I've enjoyed
wasting a few hours with the kids on trying to find the last few mini kit
pieces on such and such a level. I've even gone and ordered the original
trilogy version.
