OK this may be a nit for some folks but after installing Crysis
my automatic logon has stopped working in XP. I'm the only one
using this machine and now have to select my id from the logon
screen... WTF. I saw an append that said from Run type 'control
userpasswords2' and I should be able to set my id to just logon
bypassing the selection screen. Hmm, didn't see where select this
in the screens presented . Help!
TIA _Fred
Download Tweakui from Microsoft. It allows you to enable
Autologon.

there for a fix. I wondered what about the Crysis install caused
this to mess up. I knew something was already a problem when in my
PD, either Crysis or the Gamespy add-on had installed .Net
Framework 1.1... I've been running NFf 2.0 for my ATI card and
never loaded 1.1 or 3.0...
_Fred
Spoke to soon... It worked for the first reboot only. Checking in
Tweakui showed that the autologon box was again unchecked. I
verified the consistency of this by checking the box and rebooting.
Sure enough it worked but in looking at Tweakui again the box was
now unchecked again. Any other suggestions appreciated.
_Fred
I would suspect .NET framework messed up the logon (no reason except
that Microsoft programs occasionaly seem to "fix" things outside of
their scope).
Anyway, when you run "control userpasswords2", this should open a
window called "User Accounts". You need to click the "Users" tab and
UNCHECK "Users must enter a user name and password to use this
computer".
autologon(problems and howto's) and see .net code as a common problem
with your answer above as a cure seen. My problem for me is more of a
nuisance then a serious issue but will try the fix. Ahhh Microsoft...
can't live with ya and can't live without ya! 8-)
_Fred
I think .NET 1.0 causes this, but there was a patch (1.1?) soon
thereafter that fixed the problem. If you have 1.0 installed, go to
Windows Update and check for a patch or patches in the software group.
Or, you could uninstall it altogether and be done with it.
