G-police was less mindless and much harder. Took me a long time to get used to piloting that ship but what great fun when you cracked it! The difficulty levels and high-end requirements (it actually 'needed' a graphics card!) are what gave it low reviews way back then IIRC. I loved it though. Great challenge when I was young enough to enjoy one!!

Thanks for the memories ;-)

I know we've talked about these times before in this group, but there
are many fond memories from that era of gaming and the computers
themselves, seemingly for quite a few of us too.

I still think that back then things seemed a lot simpler and our
expectations of games were perhaps not at the giddy heights they are
sometimes at today.

Games just seemed better then too. Graphics were obviously "worse" but
I don't ever remember that fact spoiling my enjoyment of the games I
played. In fact I think I may have enjoyed them more than I do today
at times.

I thought it was just the cynicism that comes with age ;-)

I do remember loving Incoming and how that looked on my PC with the fantastic explosions and the number of enemies on the screen at a time and how I thought it really showed what a wonderful purchase I'd just made (it came free with a graphics card - 3DFX Voodoo).

Some of the 8800GT's have the latest Laura Croft free with them... it's just not the same ;-)

When you say graphics were 'worse' I do know what you mean but what really made it special (besides the gameplay) was the 'leaps' in graphics quality we saw then. Remember seeing Unreal for the first time in glide on a 3DFX card?

Sweet... and such a big jump from previous games.

Yes we had great games but we also saw some amazing improvements in software and associated hardware. We're seeing comparatively smaller gains nowadays and it just isn't as exciting. My two cents anyway.

Anyway... where's all the reviews fella? You must have had a pretty terrible year in 2007. Most games have been relatively well made - a bitch for purveyors of crap FPS? ;-)
