Bioshock used to work fine, but stopped suddenly - I hadn't installed

Restore your Windows to the earlier date (when it was working).

Thanks for the suggestions John and Beladi, I posted a bit later to say it
was a "conflict" with Daemon tools and using a masking program - YARU -
stopped the problem.

Now that I found your previous post, in that post you seemed to be
blaming everything else EXCEPT Daemon Tools, the actual culprit. Your
problem would have been totally obvious to those of us trying to help
you if you had listed all the (so-called) "rom-emulators" loaded on
your machine. Conflict of these programs with the common
copy-protection schemes has been reported many times on this
newsgroup.

Here is a definition pulled from a Google search:-

DAEMON Tools - The FREE Virtual CD/DVD-ROM-EMULATOR. Works with nearly
all common imagetypes. Emulates nearly all known protections.

Please notice the last sentence !!

Isn't SecureRom supposed to barf if it sees programs already running
that are commonly used by those attempting to evade copy-protection ?
And if I were the writer of Securerom, I would also certainly NOT
point out the culprit program causing the crash if it was on my
hit-list of "rom-emulators" . Let the user stew... as you were
doing....

I have had zero problems installing or running any of the games that
you named. Of course, I do not use any "rom-emulators" on my
machine(s).
