Re: Hellgate: London. What a fiasco.

For what it's worth, I read on the forums now that the SP patch is out.

I can't seem to get it, but this post says they are trickling it out to
avoid
heavy server loads:

So, I get home from work today to find that my copy of Hellgate:
London has arrived one day sooner than I expected. I've been gagging
to play the game so it really was a pleasant surprise.

After a lengthy install process that involved creating an online
account and entering various serials and codes, I finally managed to
get the game set up and ready to go.

Great. Except the single player component doesn't work. I managed to
watch the impressive intro movie and the splash screens then it
crashed to desktop. Each time after that it crashed after the splash
screens.
<snip>

For what it's worth, I've been active on the FSS forums, and there is
a single player patch in the works, for "soon". The only patching
so far has been for the multiplayer component. I saw the message
last night from someone at FSS named Tiggs. Again, he said it
was coming "soon". Who knows what that means.

This thing was clearly a rush job. I did end up buying it, but only
because
I felt it was a decent deal at $40, I had already put down $10 to
preorder,
and wasn't sure how difficult it would be to get that back or move it to
another game. But honestly, I do expect in the coming months it will
be much better. I'm not excusing them. EA clearly forced them to rush
this thing out the door. There are so many little things missing that it's
obvious that they barely had time to finish what they did in the time they
had.

But still, it will probably be alot better in the coming months with some
patchwork. And I also wouldn't blame anyone who waited to get it down
the road, when it's more up to speed.
