It's not just graphically, it's technically.
It's about being able to destroy entire buildings, and having a seamless gigantic area that is basically your playground, where you can drive, sail, fly, cloak, and so on - all whilst witnessing the most impressive graphics ever created for a home computer. I never said it wasn't similar to FarCry. My point is that FarCry brought the genre forward, and Crysis does it even better. It's not just about Crysis by itself, but about what it takes to bring the genre forward. I think of FarCry as an experiment that worked, but didn't live up to its potential. Crysis seems to be MUCH closer to that potential, but I won't know for sure until I have the full version in my hands.
From the moment you're watching the intro, you never EVER see a loadingscreen again. Everything is loaded seamlessly, which is not unheard of, but married with the awesome technical prowess of the engine, the texture quality etc. it's truly an awesome accomplishment.
Again, I never said Halo 3 or Bioshock were poor games, as they weren't, in fact Bioshock was great.
But I personally think - and that's all this is about - that a game like Crysis deserves FAR more praise, simply because it not only is a good game (judging from the demo the shooter gameplay itself is fantastic and the story at least decent), but it manages to bring features to the table that haven't been seen before and does so with an amazing technical superiority.
Having played all those boring, samey, linear shooters for years and finally there is a game that breaks the mold (along with a handful of others).
I've never felt so unconstrained with so few artificial boundaries, and it takes the experience to a whole new level. It's like being set free almost.
Some may not appreciate that feeling, but I certainly do. Maybe it's because I dreamt of this sort of thing as a kid, and having games approaching or exceeding my wildest thoughts related to the gaming world, is worthy of some praise.
No, it's not perfect, and it may not even be a better game as a combined experience - for everyone, but I think it deserves a lot of praise even so.
It may be, in fact probably is, the most advanced game graphically butasking an obvious question.
what does what we have seen of Crysis so far do differently to Far
Cry? It is no more of a gameplay revolution than Halo 3 is over Halo
2. It is like so many other games, just a prettier version of what has
gone before. Bioshock wasn't anything new, but it was a beautifully
crafted game world that had buckets of immersion which is a rare thing
in FPS games.
