Poor old Alyx. I could see Eli's end coming as it had been
foreshadowed, but not in quite that manner... for a video game death,
it was quite powerful. I can still hear him saying "Don't look...".

Sorry, if I sound negative again (the rest of the game is GOTY to me right now, a classic even in it's shortness :) but I found this ending illogical and rather obviously constructed. I mean, Dog running off right on time without sensing anything, and if the Advisors could sneak so easily into a rebel base why would they bother to send Striders beforehand at all (why was there one found in the farm house earlier on anyway)? There may be an explanation for that but unless I hear it inside the game it's as bad as the Hunters not having been used in the city. _Real_ good story telling would have given us an explanation or at least a hint for these issues. But as done right now it fealt cheesy and tackled on just to get a cool cliffhanger. Also it reminded me a lot of the Starship Troopers movie.

On Dog running off... I felt the complete opposite to you - when he did that I immediately knew he'd heard/sniffed something was wrong and was going to check it out and I had that horrible sinking feeling that it was all going to end badly.

I had that impression as well but the result was the same. He conveniently is away when the *** hits the fan and of course is back too late...

Probably one of the oldest plot devices... you must hate watching movies ;-)

On the advisers... the only weapons I know about that they have is some form of telekinesis and a horrible fleshy probe. Hardly the equipment for blowing up or otherwise destroying a large rocket.

I agree, but still why not have a few advisors freeze the whole rebel camp and then have the Striders destroy it? The way it was shown it seemed the rebels had no way to detect or to stop them. One explanation could be that each advisor is only able to freeze up to 2 people but even then it would still make sense have them accompany attacks and block key players.

While I think the HL series does have perhaps one of the best storylines in so far as FPS's go I personally don't expect it to go as deep as you do. FPS's are not normally as well plotted and I'm relatively happy with it. If I started analysing it too deeply I'm sure I'd find many holes but then I'd probably find much the same with most action movies and many of the books I read. I've read a couple of books recently where the plot holes really jarred with me and ruined the book so I think I know how you feel but I just don't expect the same depth with games. Don't get me wrong - if that depth starts to develop you won't find me moaning about it but... we're not there yet
