It is interpolated any way you go. That is due to the

smoothing of "drawn" fonts fixes that completely.
As a result, I run all of my labs on 1280 x 800
even on 22 inch widescreen monitors. That crap
the vendors keep telling everybody is a total lie.
There is no reason at all to run monitors under
24 inches at 1680 x 1050, and the 1280 x 800
will not produce side bars unless you are running
9000 series nVidia drivers with an outofdate
dll library.

I tried 1280x800 on a friends 22" LCD and I could live with that but I
still play lots of games that won't go above 1024x768. Some can't even do
above 640x480. I see there are some games still being released (mostly
strat games) that sill only have a few resolutions to pick and 1280x800
isn't on the list. Oh, and haven't even touched on the issues with mouse
lag and poor black levels of LCD compared to CRT. Seriously, I am not a
troll as the other idiot said and am stating true facts of issues with
LCD's and games. You guys want to bury your heads in the sand and pretend
they are great? Go ahead.
That's the software issue, not monior's. Just because the game won't support
the higher resolution doesn't make it the monitor's fault. 640x480 on a CRT
looks big and blocky too.
