I can't wait.
Looks like you have 3 computers *posting* in series, so you're almost
there. :)
I'm way beyond due for an upgrade, to the point that I can't play a
lot of the new titles. Stalker is gimping along on my 3ghz single core
AMD with a 9800 Pro. There hasn't been much that would actually prompt
me to upgrade until now. Crysis and FC2 are finally driving my upgrade
cycle. Stuff like Quake 4 and HL2: Episode 1 were fun, but not so
inspiring that I didn't mind playing them with the details all cranked
down. This is the first time I've had a "can't wait" attitude toward
PC gaming since the first Far Cry demo.
I have a half-decent system having gone dual core late last year but at the same time I bought a 22" monitor and so everything has been played since at 1680x1050 and that has stressed the 7900GT on the latest games with everything on high.
Last night I experimented and for the first time I tried both Bioshock and Stalker at 1280x768. I was very, very surprised to see no detrimental effect on the picture as I'd expected from an LCD at anything but the native rez. Both games looked fantastic. Maybe its because 1280x768 is so close to the 16:10 aspect ratio but whatever I'll keep experimenting because this means many more months that I can keep the 7900GT and save for a decent replacement rather than a knee-jerk replacement.
