seems to me that ppl could buy the retail game off the shelf, then
apply all these cracks to it afterwards
But the point is. Why should we have to? We paid for the game, the
pirates didn't.
So then what do you suggest that they do make the game a public
download and then ask you to send the money in?
IMO the people who whinge and whine the most (Morgan here) are
the ones
who would indeed steal the game.
Odd, mind explaining your reasoning behind that statement?
Hey why not you seem to find it perfectly acceptable to state you
opinion as fact so why can't Walt?
Because mine is based on actual knowledge and experience. Water's
wet. It's starting to get dark outside. I've got pint of beer in front
of me. I've played Medieval 2 today. I've got to go to work on Monday.
These are all facts. I know these are fact based on knowledge. System
Shock 2 is a better game than Bioshock. That is an opinion. Do you
understand the difference now?
Except your "fact" is fatally flawed. "Works" is a debatable
description.
Tru, I'm saying work as in, stops the game being pireted.
It does "work" for many criteria for which it was
designed. You seem to be intelligent and can put letters together to
make words. I wonder why you can't seem to accept the fact that you are
wrong on so many different levels.
You make a fair point in one of your other posts about it deterring
casual piracy but I'm not convinced as to how well it does. Really
how heard is it to get a game crack. If you can download an ISO, and
burn or mount it then that's the hard part done. Downloading a crack
(which is often packed with the illegal software) and placing it in
the right directory is a very quick and simple job.
Good. You seem to have come down from this "you are right" pedestal.
It's not a pedestal. I have no problem having a discussion/debate with someone when they're posting their ideas in a reasonable way. JAB has been posting in a moronic way and didn't bother to post his own argument at all. I believe respect to be a mutual thing.
The average game player has no idea how to do any of what you just
said.
But my point is that if they can download and mount an ISO file then the copy protection part is redundant, becasue that comes after the ISO is download and mounted/burnt.
All this is regardless because the main crux is that the MAIN period
to safeguard the SW is the initial week or two. So it DOES "work" on
those criteria.
Well like I said in an other post that you may not have read. If SW companies want to protect their games for the first couple of weeks, and activation etc can be disabled at some point. Then disable the activation etc via a patch once the crack becomes openly available. This would remove the fear that the paying customer is left with a coaster if the company goes bust and reduces the number of support problems. I just think companies need to be a bit more customer friendly.
I had problems with an invalid serial key for Vista when I first got it. In farness to Microsoft they resolve the issue very quickly. I reported it via e mail They replied quietly asking what CD key I'd used, I sent it to them. They replied quickly again asking me to confirm that I'd legally bought it and one I'd done that they sent me a new serial. However there area few of points there.
MS were very good with replying, however the moment you have any problem with on-line activation you have to rely on the company have the same level of after sales care. This level of after sales care isn't always present with other companies.
If the company goes bust then people are going to worry about being able to play the game. Realistically if 2K do go bust then there is a chance that legitimate buyers will have to start using the pirate cracks.
Some people whether you think that they're right to wrong feel that their integrity is being questioned when they're asked to verify that they've bought the game. Now I don't understand it, I also don't understand why people get pissed off when show workers forget to take a security tag off and the door alarm goes of. But there it is, and these people are the paying customer, these people have forked over their cash and basically, they think that it's rude to be asked to verify it. Like I said I don't understand it. But they're the customer and as such a customer focused company should take that into account.
Don't get me wrong. I do think the PC games industry needs to stop piracy (gutted the The Forced Unleashed isn't coming out on PC). I'd juts like to see the money invested in technology to stop CDs/DVDs being copied/imaged. Granted people would then complain about the inability to make backups but you can't make a backup of a new car and that would at least bring games in line with other purchases.
