Yes, I actually remember reading that.
However, that's still regarding the technical limitations, as you said.
You see, I'm personally quite convinced that Bioshock would have been
different in terms of gamplay (deeper and closer to an evolution of System
Shock 2 instead of Doom 3), if it had been made solely for the PC platform.
I'm not trying to blame consoles or their audience, nor am I saying that
"dumbing down" is entirely for their benefit. Indeed, dumbing down games
have become prevalent in all gaming arenas, and many PC-only titles seem to
suffer from this.
But, the console market is HUGE for selling games. Of all the Bioshock
copies sold, 88% of them were Xbox 360 copies. That's interesting, since the
PC version has yet to get cracked properly.
I'm just looking for some tangible proof that tells the doubters that the
console audience IS very different and that games ARE made less complex and
less deep to suit that market.
This is because I followed development of Bioshock, before it was even
announced, and I might be remembering wrong, but in my mind what was
released was quite different from what Levine originally talked about and
envisioned.
I'm trying to figure out why it became a shooter instead of an action/rpg,
and I want to know what part - if any - the Xbox 360 audience played in that
development.
we also have one of the thief 3 developers saying the same thing -
the text you can find an archive of it.
