I originally heard that the U3 engine would be OpenGL. It seems, from
here, not to be the case solely.

"Unreal Engine 3 is a complete game development framework for
next-generation consoles and DirectX9-equipped PCs, providing the vast
array of core technologies, content creation tools, and support
infrastructure required by top game developers."
Now assuming the back end can be changed, I take it they are still
providing a OGL backend? Are they using OGL for the PS3 version of UT3?
It's DirectX-only for Windows. Probably so that it's attractive to XBox
developers (xbox360 favorites Gears of Wars, Bioshock, and Rainbow
Six:Vegas all use the UE3 engine).
OpenGL is the basis for the PS3, Mac, and Linux versions (i.e., non-
Microsoft OS's)
.
