The retail copy of Bioshock can be activated twice. You 'll have to
contact, 2K-Games after that.

Let me simple cite 2K Elizabeth (from a blog, as the 2K forums seem to
be down - but I read the original article, too):

hey guys,

first, let me say this. you DO NOT NEED TO USE THE INTERNET EVERY TIME
YOU PLAY THIS GAME. it is only the first time.

second, you can uninstall and reinstall this game, and if, by chance,
you have 2 computers you want to simultaneously play this game on, you
also can do that.

if by some chance you are reinstalling this game without uninstalling it
first, a lot, there is a chance you may have to call securom and get a
key, or deactivate some older installations.

but if you upgrade your hardware next week, you'll still be able to play
the game. if you revamp your system and need to reinstall bioshock, just
uninstall it before you go through the overhaul, and then do your
reinstall.

calling it "hardware fingerprinting" is a bit alarmist. we do not
transmit any of your data to any companies.

really, the only people who will be concerned about any of these
security measures are those who are rapidly putting bioshock on many
pcs... if you use the game as you normally do, you won't notice this at
all.

But what if your hard drive suddenly dies before you have a chance to
officially uninstall it.. It's not fair to expect everyone will have the
opportunity/foresight to do this.

2K forum posts (and the PC Gamer article) from those who've tested this show
this doesn't work anyway. The uninstaller doesn't contact the 2k server to
give back your cred. I've seen posts from people who tried the uninstall and
checked their firewall logs for attempts to connect (no attempt logged.)

If there's any truth at all to the uninstaller giving back your cred, it
probably applies only to reinstalls on the same machine or even the same
install of Windows (I've seen at least one post which suggested the
activation info isn't even sharable across user accounts on the *same*
Windows install.)

All this, of course, is no help if you reinstalled Windows, your hard drive
croaked or you moved to a new PC.
