"Important Note: Game requires Internet connection for activation."
But is it a humiliating type of activation? I don't like the other
kinds, they are just so boring.
So I presume you're OK with activation for single-player games? You're totally fine with it now?
I only ask because guys on the TTLG forums don't particularly like this activation part of the requirements. I imagine the ONLY people who don't mind activation are the ones who have played enough Steam-based games to have gotten used to it. If you haven't had much experience with Steam, you'd be pissed.
Same as a lot of folk were pissed at Microsoft in 2001 when they found out you had to activate XP and Valve in 2004. Almost 6yrs after MS started it we don't have widespread Internet activation but yes, I guess it could eventually become the norm.
Is it a good thing this has become the "norm"? In five years time will we see net-based activation as the norm and disc-verification phased out? Imagine the number of validation servers!
I'd guess that such servers would be pretty expensive to maintain so we'll probably see a couple of large Companies hosting servers for others (a little like Valve are doing for some such as Eidos, Activision etc
.
