Past classics reworked

I was just browsing the Black Mesa Source website and marveling at the
screen shots in the Media section.
http://www.blackmesasource.com/flash/index.html
It made me think once again about the subject of great games from the
past being completely reworked in the physics, graphics and sound
department.
By reworked I don't mean as with Half-Life:Source, which to me was a
massive disappointment. My idea of a rework is precisely what they're
doing with Black Mesa Source. The soul of the game is the same. Same
story, same levels, same characters but with a high tech delivery
using ultra modern media resources.
Looking at those screen shots (some of which have "new and old"
versions) brought back fond memories, excited the gamer in me and made
me think that I would pay good money to play Black Mesa Source.
I'm wondering whether I would regret it though and whether the rose
tinted spectacles are playing their usual tricks on the more sensible
side of my nature.
I wonder whether such projects would diminish the fond memories of
these games. Could I possibly feel the same way about a great game
again? How would a game like Half-Life reworked stand up to today's
games? Half-Life always seemed like the longest and most enjoyable PC
game ever made. Would it still seem like that?
Would anyone else pay, for arguments sake, a tier 1 price for their
all time favourite game if it was reworked in this way?
