You are so individual and clever! But why you seem to think that anyone

i don't think that at all. your reasoning is that most people agree with
you, so you're "right." my response was most people probably think your
favourite band sucks, so you're "wrong." pretty simple stuff.
There you ago again getting all hot under the colour. Where did I say "more"?
Ans what is so stoopid about suggesting that many people like
scrpting?
it's stupid because your primary defense, or attack, on anything is
based entirely on how many other people agree with you. and, as i've
attempted to point out, i'm sure the majority dislikes plenty of things
you like. see the problem yet? doubtful.
But I am not the one rubbishing prey : you are. What is your point? You
are getting yourself all mixed up again. Relax. Take a deep breath.
actually, i want all of that. but not at the expense of gameplay. why
can't a game have interesting scripted sequences _and_ fresh gameplay?
According to others it does.
and according to "others" it doesn't, as if i'm the only one critical of
these things. that's a rather large hole in your superficial argument.
"Others" is not the same as "all". And I dont pretend it is. What
argument am I providing which is superficial? That I and others do
indeed like scripted FPS? How is that superficial or dishonest?
perhaps you might want to start defending your opinions with some actual
substance?
I have no idea what you are talking about. Do you deny that other people
like scripted FPS too?
the reason is, there are plenty of people like you who are wowed by
cheap theatrics and will happily play along anyway. why bother
developing something new then eh?
True. Why indeed.
exactly. a very telling response.
*whoosh*
Actually Im not easily amused : but I also dont jump up at every
repetition etc. Most of which are there becuase they are what makes
games great and fun to play.
no, they're there because they're much easier to implement than dynamic
and challenging gameplay. the same reason why movies with amazing
special fx make the most money. what's harder, fancy editing and some
cgi or writing a good story?
cgi. Anyone can come up with a story but you need to forge a game around
it. In games that is. Even the most "complicated" FPS invariably have
incredibly easy storylines that a child of 6 could script.
it's also a lot safer to stick to a successful formula than to risk
failure with innovation. yes, you think that's a positive thing. i
know.
No I dont. One of my all time favorites is SS2. Why do you make these
things up? YOu have no idea about the range and depth of games I play.
And there were no strawman arguments : I asked a question.
based on a misrepresentation of my position, yes. that's called a
strawman argument.
No its not. A strawman is erected to deflect attention.
'we' bother? gosh, you're way into that herd mentality eh? it's
comforting, i know.
Its the royal "we".
so don't bother. what, you think a superficial mainstream sheep like you
is going to alter my opinion, on anything? when you can defend an
Again, you are so individual. You have no idea what games I play and you
called me a superficial mainstream sheep. You really are a bit of a pc-games.
opinion with something other than "lots of other people agree!!" i might
consider taking you seriously.
I have many times. But what needs to be added to "scripting is good to
help develop the game and provide amusing/interesting set pieces"? Seems
reasonable enough to me : and has no effect on potential gameplay content.
anyway. i've been playing fps games for, what, 13 years? so, yeah, i'm a
little tired of the same old thing. scripted sequences, while
entertaining,
Me too. And yes, some things bore me. But I dont feel the need to jump
on the back of every new release with the standard smart ass "its just
like q3" type response when it clearly isnt.
quake 3? actually, based on the demo, it's just like doom 3 with some
obvious half-life 2 lifting. another incestuous fps game.
Diddums. Dont buy it.
There are many new gamers who are truly wowde by these games.
so what? what does that have to do with your enjoyment of the game? so
Nothing : but I dont allow my "jaded outlook" to take control and make
me rubbish everything in the same way you seem to enjoy. Many old hand
posters have posted in awe of the Prey single player demo : it is no
surprise to see you rubbishing it however.
they can keep peddling out the same crap because there's another
generation coming around the corner that will be able to appreciate it
for the first time. are we talking about gameplay or a lucrative
business model?
hooray for stagnancy!
Are you mad? Take the "meds" you're so keen on espousing.
ps there were very few scripted sequences back then 13 years ago. The
first real impact in that areas was, IMO, in Unreal. Which was released
in about 97/98?
scripted cutscenes, scripted ai, linear levels. the only innovation
anymore is in graphics. the easiest part to get right.
aren't _gameplay_. you know, the reason why i play games? so, yes, i want to
be immersed. but scripted sequences are a lazy way to create immersion in a
_game_.
So whats your alternative? Scripted sequences are ONE way : good game
play and sound and gfx can complement it. Its the sum of the whole.
what are you saying, that good gameplay can complement scripted
sequences or that gameplay isn't capable of offering immersion on the
level of a scripted sequence?
it's interesting how little you value gameplay in a _game_ .
Its interesting how you are so stupid that you need to make things up :
where did I say I never valued gameplay?
Have a nice day now.
