Well it looks like my AMD 1.4 gig with geforce 4 mmx has came to a sad
end. None of the newer games will play on this system due to ether my
graphics gard or my processor speed.

So It looks like after twenty years of PC action I am going to say
goodbye. I see no reason to continue to upgrade for the games that
are released today. How many variants of FPS can one stand anyway?

It was fun while it lasted but i refuse to keep investing in this
expensive approach to playing games. It's PS2 and Xbox (which I own
both) from now on. Looks lijke the new DX 9.0c which forces T&L and
particles are what all the new games require and my card is not up to
it.

A GF4MMX card is hardly cutting edge, even when it was released it was
lambasted as being slow.

Your CPU doesn't matter as much as you might think if the rest of your
kit is top spec, it does become a bottleneck for some games but a high
spec GPU and enough RAM will overcome most issues with modern games.

Considering that you can buy mid-range GPUs such as GF6600 for just over
a £100, and even a step up to a 2-2.5GHz CPU will only cost you £100,
you could end up with a system that will run games such as Oblivion with
a reasonable level of visuals. The only downfall might be if you need a
mobo update as well or have less than 1Gb RAM (£60 each to change).

Why do people with closed minds always open their mouths ?

Right. I can build you a decent rig for under $1000US that will last you two
years easy, and probably four with a future memory, CPU, GPU upgrade for
less than $400US in today's dollars.
