I may end up standing myself corrected in this. I've had a few peopleNote the recommended - 512MB 3D Accelerator, and 9.9 GB Free DiskThat just makes it a bigger pile of shit. The controls absolutely
Space!!! Holy Crap!
Looks like this thing may actually come on two DVD roms! Thank God
they
didn't decide to put it on 12 or 13 CD's!!!
suck
rocks :(
I can't believe the developers haven't sorted out the control issue
after
the last TR fiasco.
tell
me I've evidently misplaced a control MODE or two... I'll get back into
it
and see.
It was unfair of me to say the whole thing stunk. it doesn't. on my
system
it does look pretty, but at a dx8 level, on parr with PS2 grade meshes
and
textures. and the audio is excellent.
I doubt there is anyone who wants this game to work well more than I do.
I'm a PC Tombraider die hard from the beginning.
more on this later...
McG.
Ok, Gramps time for more of that thar Geritol. May calm you down a
bit.
We all know that you have a bleedin' edge system. However, great
graphics and great gameplay do not necessarily go together... Oblivion
an obvious recent exception. So, now let's hear more from you on
gameplay and less on the graphics....PLEASE ! Dx8 or less games can be
totally immersive, because the graphics FLUIDITY ( not polygon-count
or particle effects) and the sheer gameplay just draw you in. An
excellent example is AvP2 run on a modern machine. Or HL1, for that
matter. Not all of us spend our times playing action-games with our
noses pressed to the screen marvelling at the perfection of the AA and
counting pixels. Decent frame-rate and DX8 graphics is fine by me
in an action-game with a gripping storyline.
I am a big Tomb Raider fan also, since TR1 and its 3dfx patch.
Gave up on the last few, since the developers ran out of new ideas.
I have not downloaded TR:L demo, so please tell me how it compares
to the early TR classics. Any new ideas or just more jumping
puzzles ?
John Lewis
Judging by the demo, there are definitely more jumping puzzles, but maybe
because I haven't played any Tomb Raider all the way through since the
first one, the TR:L demo was fun and entertaining. I don't think it will
do anything groundbreaking, but as long as it is fun and not too difficult
then I'm game. I hate puzzle-like games that has areas that are so
difficult that have to be repeated 20 times just to get that one spot done
just right in order to move on.
My one gripe so far is the camera and your key controls. The camera is ok,
but sometimes whips around, and Lara moves relative to the direction
you're looking at her depending on what key you're pressing, so it can
become confusing. One second you're moving her to the right, then the
camera whips aroudn the other way, then she moves to the opposite
direction. It's worse when you're trying to jump to another location and
think you're aimed the right way, but aren't.
Other than that the graphics are pretty good, at least much better than
any previous one (not according to McG), the sound is good, and controls
are pretty good too. If the can tune that camera a bit they've got a home
run, as long as the levels don't get to be too long in the tooth.
be 'unlocked' for next gen stuff on April 7, the day the full game ships in
the UK. So we should have graphics that are even nicer than AoD, which is a
DX9 game and actually quite good appearance wise.
I agree with you about the camera and controls. I see some folks compare it
to PoP, but not as bad as PoP. Hey, even I can get around in the demo
pretty well now :) It's the controls I balked at. But they are quite a bit
more sophisticated than they initially looked to be. There are key
combinations in Legend just as there are in TR1 - 6, though these are
different and you NEED the mouse in this one. I find the camera reversal
fixable just by using mouselook to center up on Laras back, then the
directions are right :)
The music is very good. Great compositions and well 'positioned' too.
Keely Hawkes is the Lara voice and she's very good. nice voice, accent,
and well acted.
The weirdest thing I've found is that on my X2 'bleedin edge' rig, the game
runs just too fast. So I installed the demo on my P4 with FX5900 128 meg
in it and it plays fine at 1024x768.
i've about gotten over the consolitis thing now. it's still quite playable.
I'll adjust to the new scheme and play it like an expert in short order.
McG.
