The problem is that The Hobbit has nothing but disdain from alot of
"serious" literati and Tolkeinists. It's dismissed as a kids book because
the story is more intimate than some kind of epic clash of good vs. evil.
Personally it is my favorite book out of all of them- I consider the others
a bit long winded and pompous (and I did not like the ridiculous hype over
the movies- they are books that not everybody likes, not the second comming
of Christ).
