Re: buying a used 3D card

Thusly Walter Mitty <mitticus@xxxxxxxxx> Spake Unto All:

Don't the above two sentences contradict?

yes in that I was was asking something whereas you have suggested
something totally different.

So you weren't insinuating that the OP was mistaken that he now saw
better colors on-screen. Good, then we're in agreement.

Oh, I completely agree that monitor has a _bigger_ impact; however,
you seem to be implying that, given a monitor, the graphics card has
no impact at all - and it does. Or at least may.

OK. So you were bored and decided to pull my chain a bit? Or we could
get into a lengthy boring thread about how Nvidia cards may or may not
do "better color" than ATI cards.

Who's been talking about 'nvidia cards' or 'ati cards'? The OP talked
about HIS TWO SPECIFIC cards, and I listed some of the numerous
reasons why one of those cards might give better color with his
monitor.

I feel safe in saying that they dont
since theres no such thing as "better color"

Then you'd be wrong. Not only will the gamut be slightly different,
but, like I said, there may be subtle differences in the calibration
and the quality of the signal. Further, 'better' is in the eye of the
beholder - for instance most people prefer photographic film with
exaggerated color, so to them that is better than film which more
accurately captures reality.

IMO : color is color and
can be calibrated to the limitations of the thing which transfers the
"color" from a digital number or an analog voltage to the physical color
rendering on the monitor.

Generally, but not universally, true, but irrelevant, as the issue is
if the end result, what you see on screen, may be different given two
different graphics cards. And they can.
