I'm not a rich/wealthy guy. I imagine the vast majority of you folks
work hard for your living, just as I do. So to build or buy a rig that's
Top End for most of us isn't an easy or quick thing to do at all. I
realize I've actually spent more cash on having to spread out my purchases
over a period from August 17, 2005 to January 31, 2006. And I also
realize that I spent more getting my CPU first rather than video card.
In any event, I've *finally* got all the goodies here, with me, right now,
ready to shut this baby down and get to it.
A personal note. I, like many others, have kinda dreamed of owning a
super duper gaming rig that would just fly through my fave games and give
me all the beautiful graphics you can get at the same time. I also
realize there are physical limitations to everything, as well as financial
constraints. However, I still dreamed, yet dare not want.
On August 8, 2004 my mother passed away. I had more difficulty with that
loss than I ever thought I would. I came to terms with that, and came
away with an important realization. My family had always come first,
even though I've not lived with any of them for many years. Financially,
my childrens needs and as many 'wants' as possible were always met before
I would allow myself any 'treats'. I define that as just normal parents
ways, nothing special there. My children are now all grown, live on
their own and have their own families (hence, McGrandpa, ok?). I
concluded that it was time that I started giving myself some things I've
always wanted. SO, I now have 2 nice guitars, my Jeep GC Laredo, a much
more relaxed outlook and pace of living that suits me to a T. Now, dare I
dream of building a 'bleeeeeding cutting edge' game box? Me? ME? Heh!
Hell Yeah! It's *MY* turn! Do I feel guilty about this choice? Nope, I
still help the kids out all the time, I'm just focused on having my toy
now :)
MY 'dreambox in reality' as of today is:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+
Gigabyte GA-K8N SLI (nForce4 SLI, PCI-e, 2 16x, 2 1x and 2 PCI)
2 x 1g PC3200
eVGA eGeForce 7800GTX 256 meg ACS3 (dual DVI and VIVO)
2 Samsung 930B LCD flatpanel displays (have 2 DVI cables)
hand picked no-name black full tower case with Thermaltake 420 PurePower
PS.
a nice variety of sata and pata hd's, LiteOn and NEC DVD dual layer 16x
rewriters, all formats.
Win XP Pro (32bit) full retail box.
Win XP Pro x64 OEM packet.
3 distros of Linux.
All the games currently out that I wanted, I've bought and have ready to
go.
I think it's the makings of a pretty darn good rig :) On this note, I'll
bid you all a good day and shut this puppy down and get started!
Hate to piss on your dream a little, but that power supply is a bit
underwhelming. With the 7800GTX and multiple drives you may want to shell
out a few extra bucks and get at least a quality 500w, preferably a 550w.
