I recently bought AOE3 for my PC,
To make a long story short I had to update my 32m video card to even
make the game work.
I put in an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 : 128MB
I was happy that the games all work really well with the new card,
I thought I would see a Mecca of improved 3d video detail upon
completion,
why isn't the detail any more impressive than the old age of empires
with the old uncooled video card. In fact AOE3 pales in comparison to
"Black and White", or "Empires Earth" in the 3D detail category, (both
of them worked with the old card).. especially when you want to zoom in
close to the subjects.
It seems the only thing the card got me, was to make the game
functional.
I don't see what the heck is using all the processing power and vid-ram
with the fairly plain looking graphics of AOE3?
(on the other hand, I am able to up the frame rate and I hear that is a
good thing although I can't really notice any change).

The FX5500 is a POS graphics card, I don't care how much memory it has.
You need a 6600GT at minimum if you want off the shelf games today to run on
your PC at decent detail.
