Report: Stargate SG-1 Cancelled, Developer Troubled
January 23, 2006

According to online reports, Perception, the Australian developer of
Stargate SG-1: The Alliance, has cancelled the near-finished title and
appears to be in the process of closing its doors, following continued
issues regarding the game.

Posts by forum administrators on the game's website forum appear to
confirm the news that the game has been cancelled, suggesting that an
official statement from MGM and/or Perception will be forthcoming in
the next few days.

The game, based on the television series of the same name, has had a
troubled history, beginning when publisher JoWooD dropped the game
claiming that the game satisfied "neither our quality requirements nor
the fans' expectations". These comments were immediately rebuked by
Perception, who claimed that JoWooD had been in breach of several
payments to the developer, and noted that it controlled the license.

Japanese publisher Namco had appeared to step in as publisher for the
game - going as far as to display it at its E3 stand last May.
However, French website Online Gamer has quoted an unnamed member of
the development team as saying that MGM never approved Namco's
takeover of the title, and that the closure of Perception came as a
direct result of the uncertainty and payment issues this created.

According to the same source, the game has now been terminated for all
formats and the development team "let go". Any decision as to
whether to proceed with the game, which had apparently reached the
Alpha stage of completion, and has built up a sizeable fan community,
will now presumably rest at least partially with license holders MGM.
No official comment had been received from Perception as of press time.
