Interesting.

We have a similar way of "triaging" our purchases. I've got this
"thing" about paying full price, too. Especially since "full price",
lately, has been translating into $55 or $65. Bleh.

Having said that, if I'm anxiously awaiting an "A-List" title, I've got
no problem taking the plunge right away. In my area around here, titles are
usually on sale when they first come out. If you don't grab it up in the
first couple-two-three weeks you miss the window and the game hovers at
full-price for months and months before it starts to creep back down again.
That is, of course, unless it's a real stinker. Even so, I figure I owe it
to the developers to throw them some full-price purchases now and again
(doing my part to keep the industry humming along :-D

If I'm less confident about a game's quality, however, I've got no
trouble waiting until the price comes way down, or I at least start to hear
some in-depth discussion/reviews about how good the title actually is (once
all the hype has blown over). Sometimes it's really hard finding the
will-power to sit back and bide my time, but I've got enough unplayed titles
here on my shelves that I can usually dig up a distraction or two to help me
lay off making a new purchase.

Anyway, so much for my rambling opinion...
