All LCD flatpanel displays are not created equal. Neither are CRT's. I
use what works and what I'm most comfortable with AND can afford. I can
afford and do own better LCD monitors than what you are speaking of. I've
seen LCD monitors that look just that crappy. On my Sammy 930B's, color
is 8 bits per color per pixel, red, green, blue. 16.7 million colors.
It's 19", has the same amount of screen real estate as a 20" or even some
21" CRT's. It doesn't have flicker or crawlies, at all, in either Analog or
DVI. They don't generate heat like my CRT's did, they have built in power
supplies, cabling is easy and no worries about the cables sticking out the
back and rubbing against the wall - with the front of the monitor leaving
room only for the keyboard. Desk is 3.5 feet deep and 7 feet long. There
wasn't room ON the desk for two 19 or 20" monitors AND my CPU, keyboard,
mouse and 6x8 graphics tablet. I now have 2 19" monitors, CPU, keyboard,
mouse, graphics tablet, phone, a stack of DVD movies and a 4" high stack of
work I should be doing I guess. And I have room to spare. I have my
elbows on the desk now! I'm comfortable! DAMN I like it too! I
mentioned movies. They look GOOD on these monitors! Crisp, clear, vivid
color, no ghosting or shadowing. Games. FPS action games, flight sims.
Excellent. Love em. Love em in 1280x1024, just like the DVD movies.
Great.
I never could afford a really *good* CRT monitor. I drew a line at $600 US.
I don't buy hardware sight unseen at all. I've bought and still own NEC,
Phillips, Sony, Samsung and KDS brand CRT monitors. Not a one of them has a
truly FLAT screen. Not a one has an image that is as sharp, clear and clean
as the image on ANY of the five LCD flatpanel displays I also own. I don't
have a lot of space either. I live in a 1 bedroom garage apartment :) I do
love my computer toys.
$400 for a Sammy 930B. Sweet. Two for $800 is just twice the sweetness!
You make it sound like we're all a bunch of folks that have never seen or
used a CRT. I've been using CRT multisynch monitors since 1985. For work,
for gaming, for imaging. So far, I do like what I have in these LCD
monitors.
There is ONE thing I've found that CRT's generally do better than LCD's.
They have greater viewing angle, especially vertical angle. That's it.
Period. I live in the real world, I have both kinds of monitors so I KNOW
what's what with them. So the only one you're likely to convince about the
greatness of the almighty CRT is you.
