He didn't have one. He sat on the "I'm afraid to commit" fence cause he
doesn't really know. It's not a matter of taste, or a POV. It's a matter of
fact. If you won't take it from an IT professional of 20+ years who's read &
experienced direct evidence in this matter & spoken to numerous IBM/HP/etc
engineers on the topic, then keep turning your shitbox on & off, just use at
least the other half of your brain that listens to reason & take regular
backups. Very regular backups. Or shall we argue about that now as well...?

You have no evidence to support this assertion. 'Sleeping' PCs have reduced
in power consumption & noise - heat output is not directly related to it, &
in fact is mostly only an issue if you are using your cpu / video card flat
out. A PC can do a lot of stuff unattended that utilises less than 30% of
it's peak output capacity & thus reducing it's off-peak usage to under 60W.
I have measured mine with monitor off & just P2P trickling away at under
30W. Even at my shitful domestic rate of 13.26c/KWh that comes out to just
under 0.4c/hr, or a whole $35/year, so I can run my PC all the time. Guess
what? I reckon it's worth it! :-p
